This year in our photography class, we completed many projects. My personal favorite was the paper lantern project. It gave me an opportunity to work with physical materials and light, and to explore the ways that materials make shadows. I grew a lot from this project, but I believe that I grew the most from both days of the light painting project. It was really fun, and I learned about long exposures and making art that I can’t see. These techniques, along with my knowledge about reflections and light, went into my futuristic cities project. It helped me grow because ordinarily, I’d never photograph something like that. It also taught me patience in model-making. That project was really important in my growth as an artist. However, in my opinion the least important project we did was the hamburger project. I had already learned how to do layers and paintings in ADNM, so I felt that this project wasn’t necessary. The project in this class that I believe that reflected me the best as a person was the light painting project as well. It allowed me to portray the subject exactly as I wanted to, and it let me control everything going into the pictures, such as posing and lighting. Art and design have changed my life irreparably. They have allowed me to express myself where words fail. I can't imagine my life without art being nearly as good as it is now.
